Troubleshooting No Signal or Blank Screens on Workout TVs
If your workout TVs display "No Signal", a black screen or no workout video, the issue may involve the SPTV player or your studio's AV equipment.
The SPTV player provides workout video and audio, while your studio's AV equipment distributes these signals to the TVs and speakers.
Important – Before Troubleshooting
If workout audio continues playing but the TVs have no picture, the SPTV may still be operating normally.
Changes in connected AV equipment, particularly when TVs are switched off, enter standby or change inputs, can interrupt the HDMI/video connection and affect video playback.
Restarting the HDMI/video splitter, manually loading another workout or advertisement, or restarting the SPTV may temporarily restore the picture. However, these actions do not necessarily resolve the underlying issue or mean the SPTV player is faulty.
These troubleshooting steps also help identify whether the issue is related to the studio's AV equipment.
If video interruptions repeatedly occur, your studio's AV service provider should investigate and resolve the underlying cause.
Step 1 – Check What Is Happening
Before restarting anything, check:
- Affected TVs: Are all workout TVs affected or only some?
- Screen display: Do the TVs show "No Signal", a black screen or another message?
- Workout audio: Can you still hear the workout audio through the speakers?
- Class schedule: Is a workout currently scheduled?
- Recent changes: Have the TVs or SPTV recently been switched off, restarted or experienced a power interruption?
Note: Advertisements do not contain audio. Silence between scheduled classes is normal and does not necessarily indicate a player fault.
Step 2 – Check the TVs
Using the TV remote:
- Confirm the TVs are powered on.
- Check they are set to the correct input, usually HDMI 1.
- Confirm whether all workout TVs are affected.
If only some TVs are affected, the issue is more likely related to the studio's AV distribution equipment or individual TVs. Contact your AV service provider.
If all TVs are affected, continue below.
Step 3 – Check the HDMI Splitter or Distributor
Your studio may have an HDMI or VGA splitter that distributes video to the workout TVs.
If you can safely identify this equipment:
- Turn off the splitter using its power switch.
- Wait approximately 1–5 minutes.
- Turn it back on and check whether the picture returns.
If the picture returns, this supports an HDMI connection or AV distribution issue.
Restarting the splitter is only a temporary workaround. Recurring problems require investigation by your AV service provider.
Do not disconnect or rearrange cables. If you cannot identify the splitter, contact your AV service provider.
Step 4 – Check the HDMI Switcher (If Installed)
Some studios have an HDMI switcher that allows trainers to select between the SPTV and another video source, such as a laptop.
- Check that the switcher is set to the SPTV input.
- If necessary, select the correct input.
- Check whether the workout picture returns.
Input numbers and labels vary between studios. Contact your AV service provider if unsure.
Step 5 – Manually Load a Workout or Advertisement
If all workout TVs remain blank, you can try manually loading another video using the LCD controller.
Only perform this check when no class is running.
- Use the LCD controller to load a workout or advertisement.
- Check whether the picture returns to the TVs.
If the picture returns without restarting the SPTV, this supports an interruption involving the HDMI connection or video output rather than a complete player failure.
This is a diagnostic check and temporary workaround, not a permanent resolution.
Step 6 – Restart the SPTV (If Required)
If the previous checks do not restore the picture, restarting the SPTV may help reinitialise its video output.
Follow our guide:
Easy Guide to Rebooting Your Media Player Safely
Important:
- Follow the recommended restart procedure.
- Allow sufficient time for the player to start.
- Do not repeatedly restart or disconnect power from the SPTV.
Improper shutdowns can cause software corruption.
If restarting restores the picture, this does not establish that the SPTV caused the original problem.
If the issue persists, contact WEDOOH Support before attempting further resets.
Step 7 – Recurring Morning or Intermittent Video Issues
If your workout TVs regularly lose their picture, particularly when first switched on in the morning or again for evening classes after being switched off between sessions, the issue may involve HDMI communication between the TVs and connected AV equipment.
As a diagnostic test, leave one workout TV powered on overnight and check whether the issue occurs the following morning.
If the problem stops occurring, this supports an HDMI handshake or AV-related issue associated with changes in TV power states.
This test helps identify the cause but is not a permanent solution.
Recurring video interruptions should be investigated by your studio's AV service provider, even if restarting equipment or manually loading another video temporarily restores the picture.
When to Contact Your AV Service Provider
Contact your AV service provider if:
- Only some workout TVs have no picture.
- Video repeatedly disappears when TVs are switched on or off.
- Restarting the splitter temporarily restores the picture.
- Manually loading another video or restarting the SPTV restores the picture, but the problem returns.
- You suspect a problem with the HDMI switcher, splitter, cabling or other AV equipment.
These symptoms may indicate HDMI communication or distribution issues and do not necessarily mean any particular device is faulty.
